Paluxy River Edwards Road Texas, by Jill Randall

Paluxy River Edwards Rd. Texas, by Jill Randall
9"x12" oil on Raymar Canvas Panel
Texas has beautiful fall weather for Plein Air painting.  On this perfect day in early November I went with my artist friend,
Carol Lee, to a favorite spot on Edwards Road to paint the Paluxy River.  Carol produced a lovely pastel of the river.
I challenged myself to complete in one setting a plein air painting.  I sketched in the composition and the darks, then using both the brush and pallet knife worked as fast as I could.  I did finish the painting, but still had to resist messing with it when I got it home.  I have found in the past that when I do try to adjust a plein air painting in the studio, it often loses its spontaneity and freshness.

Evening Light on the Brazo by Jill Randall

Evening Light on the Brazos by Jill Randall
8"x10" oil on canvas
In the Granbury area I have access to two wonderful rivers:  the Brazos River and the Paluxy River.  I love the variety of views these two rivers offer and feel blessed to live in an area that has such rich opportunities for landscape paintings.
