April Bluebonnets by Jill Randall
8”x10”  oil on Raymar panel
Saturday the 14th, I joined four other artist to do a painting demo at the Dutch Art Gallery where the Artist of Texas have their No Where But Texas show until January 11.  If you have a chance, this is a beautiful exhibit of talented artist in Texas.
I chose to paint from memory and a reference photo taken at Rough Creek resort out of Glen Rose.  It was a fun day of painting and visiting with other artist and patrons.

Brazos River Fall by Jill Randall

Brazos River Fall by Jill Randall
9”x12” oil on Raymar Canvas
I painted this Plein Air painting back in November.  Sheri Jones and I were able to take advantage of a lovely mild day to paint on the Brazos River which winds around Pecan Plantation, a gated community near Granbury.  It was sunny but with a slight wind that was a little cool.  We painted from two until four when the sun was too low behind the trees.  Painting outdoors can be uncomfortable at time, but it is always inspiring.  I know I must have said three or four times to Sheri who also agreed how much I loved being outside on a wonderful November afternoon painting.

Fall Sumac by Jill Randall

The sumac are always so beautiful in this spot which I visited three times this fall with my painting buddy, Sheri Jones.  However, the first two times I had painting “wipe outs”. The last visit Sheri and I painted here I had a “keeper”.  However, I had to finish it in my studio. I am happy with the results because it has the scruffy look of the place.  I used the pallet knife which is such an advantage for me when painting a plein air piece since I can get strong colors on fast before the light changes too drastically.
